Frequently Asked Questions
What else beside a&d can i use to help heal my tattoo?
Each individual’s pain threshold is very different. Some people think one part of the body is very painful while others have no problem sitting through that particular spot. Each area of the body is different. In the end, most people compare the pain to an annoyance or persistent scratching feeling. Remember, if it hurt extravagantly no one would ever get tattooed more than once!
I heard that Polysporin is good to use on a healing tattoo. Is this true?
There are different companies who make and sell tattoo aftercare products, some work very well some don’t. H2ocean, Tattoogoo, and Hustle Butter are few tattoo aftercare products that help the ink penetrate while at the same time healing your skin. But you are not gonna find them at your local pharmacy. At the pharmacy you can pick up bacitracin or Neosporin which both work well to help prevent infection to your open cut (your tattoo) and also help it heal.
How long do I have to wait to go swimming, take a bath, or go in my hot tub?
It is best to wait a minimum of two weeks. If you have issues healing your tattoo you may have to wait longer. Submerging a fresh tattoo in any kind of water will result in scarification and improper healing. It is best to take showers and let the water softly fall over the area, being careful not to soak it. Always gently dab, not rub, with a disposable paper towel or a very clean towel to dry.
Does StayOnPoint Tattoo use any sort of numbing cream when tattooing?
No. It is best not to use any sort of numbing cream in the process of tattooing. Aside from not being an effective method, it can cause complications in the healing process by slowing it down considerably. Besides, most of the time you will still feel some pain. A good tattoo artist or piircer will be able to talk you through the process and relieve some of your fears.
StayOnPoint Tattoo is focused on producing the best tattoo work possible for all of our clients. My designs are mostly custom, although I can do flash as well. I pride myself on being able to confidently fulfill any request of any style. From calligraphy work to full body Japanese style work to classic old school and everything in between, I love exceeding our client’s expectations. Most of my work is done by appointment, but I also accept walk-ins. I cannot guarantee that I will always have time for a walk-in, but if you are planning to stop by it is best to call ahead or come first thing in the day. We do not book appointments over the phone, but we can let you know what the schedule looks like for that day! All walk-ins are first come, first served. I do not tattoo anyone who is underage, ID is required.
When planning a custom design, it is best to set an appointment for a consultation with me. Bring in any reference material you may have to help me get a better understanding of what you are looking for. Speak to me about the area you would like it placed and the overall feeling of the design. From there, you will be asked to place a minimum deposit that will be debited from the total of your tattoo and make an appointment.
Between the time of your consultation and the appointment, I will draw the design. You can view the design if it is finished, prior to your appointment if you wish. This can also be done via email. From there, exact positioning will be discussed at your appointment. There is no fee for the initial consultation, but all deposits are non-refundable.
After I have completed your new tattoo, it is very important to care for it so it will look perfect. Tattoos generally take about 2 weeks to heal, although it may differ depending on each person’s immune system and the area the tattoo is placed. Here are StayOnPoint Tattoo’s instructions for healing:
- Leave the bandage on for 3-4 hours.
- When you remove the bandage, ensure that your hands are thoroughly clean. Always wash your hands before touching your tattoo.
- Use plain, unscented soap and wash tattoo gently but thoroughly with your fingertips. DO NOT use a washcloth, loofah, or paper towel as this will irritate the skin further. Your tattoo will feel slightly gooey. This is plasma and is completely normal. Wash thoroughly with soap until it no longer feels slimy. Do not place another bandage on your tattoo afterward, it needs to breathe!
- Wash your tattoo 2-3 times daily. Do not over wash! You will dry it out and irritate the skin.
- Once your tattoo starts feeling dry, usually within 2 days, begin applying a very thin layer of non-scented lotion (Lubriderm is a good one) or tattoo lotion. Be careful not to apply too much, too often.
- Your tattoo will get itchy. DO NOT pick or scratch at it. This can cause scarring which will damage the end look of your tattoo.
- DO NOT take baths, go swimming, or submerge your new tattoo in any kind of water for at least 2 weeks.
- Make sure to avoid pet hair, wear clean clothes and make sure your sheets are freshly cleaned.
When you make an appointment at StayOnPoint Tattoo, we require a minimum deposit. This money will be debited from your total cost after the tattoo is finished. If you require multiple sessions, the deposit is held and debited from the total of your last appointment. Deposits are non-refundable if you do not show up to your appointment and are made only in cash. However, if you provide me with minimum 48 hours notice you are able to change your appointment to another day or time with the same deposit. Deposits are non-negotiable and a requirement for every client.
